Bickleigh Castle was owned by three families linked by marriage from the Norman period until 1924. It has close connections with the Plantaganets, the Tudors, especially King Henry V11 and V111, and also with the Stuarts. The 17th Century owner Sir Henry Carew was visited by the Queen in 1644.
Come and hear about the various Royal visitors, the families de Redvers, Courtenay and Carew, and see the armour and artefacts and some fine 17th Century portraits, several of kings and other royalty.
Guided tours are for all age groups – from families to school groups, and must be booked in advance.
They ask individuals and families wishing to have a tour of the castle to join in with the daily 10am tour, which is held for resident guests.
This is a perfect gift for anyone who enjoys listening to Heritage and History and a wonderful day out. They are sometimes able to arrange an afternoon tea to follow a tour of the Castle.
Please ring 01884 855363 or 855796 to check that a tour is on, as they are not held if they have a special event such as a wedding taking place at the Castle.
