In 1997 the dairy farm was split from the caravan park, and Yeatheridge Farm developed a herd of Devon Ruby Red cattle to supply our onsite restaurant (zero origin food miles, 70miles of transport).
Yeatheridge Farm is our business but also our home. We make every effort to support our land and nurture what we are so lucky to be surrounded by. Please read on to see how we are implementing sustainable methods across our business and also the positive impacts we have on our community.
Our sustainability initiatives include:
Reducing food miles
We do our very best to source our ingredients and stock from Devon Businesses. In the Bull Pen Bar we have a large blackboard of the south west map which pin points our suppliers for you to see.
Examples include:
- Yeatheridge Farm – 0 Miles – Beef that is reared here on our farm is used in our homemade burgers, lasagne and pies as well as our own Farm reared lamb being available on the menu (Seasonal).
- Black Dog Eggs – 3 miles – Supplies all our free range eggs used in home cooking and also sold in boxes in the shop (you can see the farm from the patio)

Other ways and places you will see our commitment to sustainability on site
- Veg ware and Plastic replacements – Takeaway tea and coffees are served in 100% biodegradable ‘good cups’. With their folding carboard lids we can wave bye bye to outdated plastic lids
- On Site Bee Hives – New for 2026 the installation of 6 bee hives. Bee’s are fantastic in helping our environment- from sustaining our environments to pollinating deep rooted plants which help to store carbon safely , Bees really are the super hero’s in Sustainability
- Bug Hotels – Thanks to the children of May Half term we now have 2 brilliant new bug hotels situated onsite- with plans to create more with the children over the summer. Bug hotels offer shelter and safety for all sorts of creatures. We hope to spread our hotels across different pockets of our land and use them as teaching tools around the importance of protecting and nurturing our environment
- Solar – We have 170kw of Solar generation at Yeatheridge. This allows us to at times be completely self sufficient in our energy usage. We have also installed 100 kw of batteries meaning that we can store our excess energy generation to then use when needed.
- Biomass – Our Biomass boiler is heated on locally sourced woodchip and enables us to heat our indoor swimming pools in an environmentally manner.
- Car Charging Ports- We have 2 22kw electric car charging ports on site for those needing to recharge during their holiday.
- Pay as you use electric – Meter Macs enables customers to pay for what they use, which in turn means customers now have to make a conscious decision about what electric they need to use. The majority have actually found they use and spend less than when electric is included in site fees.
- The Book Shed – Our old onsite telephone box is a book swap shop. We love to recycle where we can and what better way to encourage all ages is to donate a finished book and pick out a new one from the shed. A Parkinson’s UK donation pot is based within the shed for those that can contribute a small donation.
- Sewage Treatment Plant
- Waste – all kitchen waste is separated at source and kitchen waste is collected by a company called Biffa and used to make biogas to create
- We use our state-of-the art cardboard compactor to effectively reduce the amount of packaging waste from around the site into mill size half tonne bales. These efficient bundles are then sent off to the Peninsula Waste Savers in nearby North Tawton.
Regenerative Tourism
Part of our ethos at Yeatheridge is not only about looking after the land but also looking out for our community and giving back and improving where we can. Without our communities support we wouldn’t be able to provide the level of service that we are so frequently praised on.
Below our some of our schemes which aim to support our community and include them in our business and offering;
- Donating use of our swimming pool to our local school for their swimming lessons. With school budgets dwindling, We have for many years now invited pupils form East Worlington Primary School to use our pool for their lessons free of charge. To date this has helped well over 600 pupils in their journey of learning to swim.
- Supporting our Local Church. Each year we donate the soft drinks and ice creams for our local Church Fete.
- Supporting Devon Air ambulance: Each year we hold an end of season Party- comprising of a huge quiz and firework display. On average we are able to donate over £2,500 to The Devon Air Ambulance.
- Supporting other charities close to our and our staffs hearts. Last year our children began holding bake sale fundraisers, with money going to our local PTFA, Children’s Hospice and Parkinson’s UK. We plan to continue these through the summer.
